Hands-Free, Eyes-Free, Traffic Information

Listen to your phone play travel advisories near you,in your direction of travel. As you travel, it will automatically keep you updated. You don't need to register, you don't need to sign up anywhere for anything.. Launchthe hands-free app before you put your car in drive. The app uses the phone's internalGPS to locate your position and direction of travel. Safe TripNJ will sense whenyou are approaching a reported roadway condition whether in the New Jersey Turnpike,Garden State Parkway, Interstate highway or state roadway. it will start talkingwith streaming audio, telling you about active advisories that are ahead.

How it works

Launch the hands-free Safe TripNJ application before you put your car in drive. You will hear active advisories that are nearyou. Now, put the phone down and focus on driving. It's that simple. There's nothingon your phone that you need to touch or read. Just listen for the travel alerts.

Safe TripNJ will remain on while you drive, automatically activating when you apprachan area impacted by an advisory. The app will automatically broadcast any travelalerts for reported conditions within a set mile-range of your current location. This is a customized setting that you can adjust by yourself!

Conditions are broadcast once, then the broadcast stream will go quiet until:

  • there is an update to an advisory near you; or
  • you have come within range of another advisory; or
  • a set time period has elapsed (that you can choose) and you want to repeat all advisories that are still in range.

If you get a call, or make a call while the travel alertis playing, the alert will pause and will resume playing once the camm has ended.

User Modifications Features/Experience

You have the ability to modify several options. These configurations are saved on your phone. These features are;

the advisory play interval
the All Points advisory replay interval
the range (in miles) for hearing advisories

The application gives you audio player controls for Play, Pause, Skip, and ReplayCurrent. At any time you can turn off your phone's GPS. If you do, the app willtry to estimate what advisories to broadcast. You can also turn off the GPS fromwithin the app, then the advisories will stop playing.

You do not need to register with the New Jersey Turnpike, or 511NJ, or, subscribefor alerts using this app. We don't get or record any uniquely or personally identifyinginformation about you or your phone.

The Technology

The application is based upon Info Logistic's patentpended "Open Microphone Platform" which is queue-driven, voice streaming technologyused in combination with your phone's built-in GPS.

The data for the system is the same data that is available on the 511NJ phone system, webpage and personalized alerts.

ANDROID FAQ's

I've started the app, but I am not hearing any advisories, what's going on?
Several items can be occurring if you are no longer hearing advisories:
  • You may be in an area where no advisories are in the radius you selected. If you think there should be, try pressing the "replay all" button on the far right of the audio controls. This will reset your connection and replay active advisories near you.
  • Your advisory radius may be set to a low value.
  • You may not be in range of a cell tower to provide data access. Ask a passenger to look at the phone (or when you are stopped) to check for any possible error messages related to the cellular network. Once you are back in range of your network, advisories should resume.
  • Your phone may be simply attempting to acquire a location for your device. If you have wireless location (settings -> location -> use wireless networks) enabled, you can generally get quicker response times as the phone can utilize this less accurate location while it acquires a more solid GPS lock. If you only have GPS location enabled, allow the device sufficient time to acquire a lock.
  • The next time you experience issues please toggle the “Enable Debugging Mode” option on, through the “Settings” page (access “Settings” by tapping your phone’s menu button, and selecting “Settings”), to send us back information so we can better troubleshoot the issue.
